INCLUSIVE DANCE
I am committed to the continued progress of disability justice, supporting artists with a disability to make dance more accessible. My collaborative work in this field challenges traditional notions about the body and expands what dance can be.
Experience:
Since 2007 I have directed ConCuerpos, the pioneering inclusive dance company in Colombia where artists with and without disabilities come together to develop artistic, educational, and research projects. I'm currently establishing a new branch of the company in the Netherlands.
In addition, I am part of the Latin American Dance and Accessibility Network and was the Artistic Director of the III Latin American Dance and Inclusion Gathering 2020, a telematic hug.
In collaboration with Diana León, I have developed a training workshop for teachers on inclusive dance, which we offer annually in Colombia, and by invitation in other countries.
Current research:
I am currently focused on developing an artistic language grounded in the concept of Universal Accessibility. This involves seamlessly integrating Sign Language and audio description into the dramaturgy of my work, using them as both access and expressive tools.
In my research, I have been exploring innovative ways to intertwine Sign Language with choreography. By enhancing the kinetic elements of Sign Language, I expand signs and gestures across space and dimension, varying their speed, and creating connections between different body parts of the dancers. Additionally, I am investigating creative approaches to describe movement through voice and sound, enriching the overall sensory experience of the performance.
